Although we think of ourselves as people experiencing life, in actuality we are souls experiencing eternity. Most people never think of themselves as an eternal soul, but have a fixation on being a mortal person. Our physical body is a temporary abode for the immortal souls we are. When we leave our bodies in so-called death, we tend to be so attached to our personality – believing that this is who we are – that we continue the next incarnation with the same, or very similar, personality.
Often this is not to our advantage. In every incarnation we are able to transcend the more negative aspects of our personality if we so choose. Also, if during each incarnation we develop spiritually, when the physical body dies our personality gradually fades away. When we reincarnate we are a clean slate . . . so to speak! We can truly have ‘new’ experiences in life, thus promoting ‘new’ growth as a soul-Being. Of course, we also develop a new personality, but we do ‘not’ have to believe that this is who we are.
It will assist the whole process if we continue to constantly and consciously choose . . . unconditional Love!
